Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia
Description: Coverage of the development and implementation of the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC), commonly known in Cambodia as the "Khmer Rouge Tribunal", synthesizing complex legal, historical and political information for a general audience. I contextualized the tribunal’s hybrid design, highlighting national and international participation, and analyzed its influence on subsequent tribunals in East Timor, Kosovo, Sierra Leone and Bosnia. My reporting integrated interviews with legal experts, prosecutors and observers while maintaining accuracy, neutrality and ethical standards. I collaborated with a graphic designer to create an infographic summarizing the ECCC’s structure and procedural innovations, ensuring clarity, visual accessibility and effective storytelling. These outputs provide an early, detailed account of the ECCC’s procedures, challenges and significance for post-conflict justice, serving as a historical record and reference for scholars, policymakers and practitioners.
